I am one of those individuals that likes to know the end before I begin – meaning, I like to know as much of the complete picture as possible. I like to know exactly where I am going before I get in the car; I like to know why something is being requested of me before I take action; I like to know the possibilities of certain actions. Basically, I like to know as much as possible before I move forward.
I was recently thinking about how this plays out in a Christian’s life, or more specifically, my life. Am I seeking to have the full picture from God before I move forward? Am I standing there with my arms crossed, tapping my foot and waiting for God to present me with the information that I feel I need before I am willing to move forward? Sadly I believe the answer is yes.
The word “glimpse” is often defined as a brief or incomplete view. I was recently thinking how often God has provided me with a glimpse of my future, or of requested actions and how often I did not move because I did not have the full picture. How many times have I missed out on my the blessing or on growth opportunities because I could not move with only the glimpse?
I was recently asking my husband what he would do if he was approaching a building and everyone was running out; he said he would start running away as well. I told him my reaction would be to try to find out what was happening and why people were running – I would not run simply because others were running. If however I was approaching the building and my husband, or Mom came out running and told me to run – without exception or question I would start running. I would run, because someone I trust and someone I know loves and cares about me told me to run.
God wants us to trust and love Him enough to move, and to move quickly based on the glimpse that He provides us. He wants us to trust Him enough to simply say “Yes Lord,” and not ask “why” or “why now.”
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has plans for His children and that we are here for a reason. The beauty of God is that even when we don’t move based on the “glimpse,” even when we stand there asking questions, He does not leave us behind. God loves us so much that He waits for us to have enough love and faith in Him to move.
I pray that as I continue to mature in my Christian walk that my first response is “Yes Lord,” when given the glimpse by God.
